Program details

Overview

The Adult Basic Education program can help you complete high school and earn your Adult Graduation Diploma (Adult Dogwood). Courses can also be used to meet university program prerequisites.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must be at least 19, or hold a secondary graduation diploma, or be 17-18 and out of public school for a year or more. English competency for entry is demonstrated through any one of several routes: ENGL 081 (or equivalent) at C+ or better; UFV assessment placing at ENGL 091 or higher; Communications 12 at C+; any English Language Arts 11 or English 11 course at C; English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at C- or better; or a standardized score such as an LPI essay of 24+, UFV Composition Placement Test of 41+, TOEFL iBT of 79-80, TOEFL PBT of 550, or IELTS Academic 6. Applicants who meet none of these may still apply for special admission under the department's discretion. International applicants are directed to consult UFV International separately on citizenship and residency status, and applications are accepted year-round with placement into the next available intake and level.

Application Details

Start Date: September, January and May
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
