Hons in American Studies (HBA)

American Studies is a Major and Minor program in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto St. George campus, leading to an Honours Bachelor of Arts, offering an interdisciplinary education about the United States and its role in the world. The Major requires 7.0 credits: three foundational courses, AMS200H1, AMS201H1, and AMS300H1 (1.5 credits), 1.0 credit from gateway courses offered across American Studies, English, History, Geography, Political Science, or Cinema Studies, and four one-credit thematic clusters covering Politics and Economics, Society, Culture, and History, with at least 2.0 credits at the 300-level or above, including 1.5 AMS credits at the 300+ level with 0.5 at the 400-level. The Minor requires 4.0 credits: two foundational courses, AMS200H1 and AMS201H1, 1.0 credit from gateway courses, and 2.5 credits of American Studies or eligible electives with at least 1.0 credit at the 300+ level. The program also includes a quantitative-reasoning competency requirement met through an approved breadth-category course or alternative.
