Latin American Studies is administered by the Department of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto's St. George campus, leading to an Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA) with Major or Minor options, alongside a separate Certificate in Global Latin America. The interdisciplinary program lets students deepen their understanding of Latin America through courses spanning colonial histories, literary and anthropological genres, comparative politics, the politics of indigeneity and human rights, geography and urban planning, public health, environmental policy, and the political economy of the region. Coursework encourages students to pursue their own academic and professional interests while building proficiency in contemporary debates about Latin America within a flexible interdisciplinary framework. Some advanced-level courses include curricular and co-curricular activities that offer career-development opportunities and experiential learning in Latin America itself.
