Spanish and Latin American Studies (SLAS) is a Minor offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen's University, intended to complement a student's Major plan in another discipline. The Minor requires two years of language study together with option courses drawn from within the department and from other academic units across campus, covering literature, film, culture, art, economics, gender studies, geography, global development, history, political studies and sociology. Students may also spend a semester or two studying in a Spanish-speaking country, with department scholarships available to support the cost of study abroad. The Plan provides an interdisciplinary perspective on Latin America that is not limited to literature and culture alone, allowing students to combine additional language courses, discipline-specific option courses, or a mix of both. Full plan requirements and course offerings are listed in the Faculty of Arts and Science's Academic Calendar.
