Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) at the University of Toronto's St. George campus studies the origins, diversity and distribution of organisms, and the biological, genetic and ecosystem processes that maintain biodiversity. The department offers Specialist, Major and Minor options within the Honours Bachelor of Science; the Specialist requires 12.0 credits, including at least 4.0 credits at the 300+ level with 1.0 credit at the 400-level, covering molecular studies, laboratory experiments, computer and mathematical modelling, and field studies. Course offerings span biological diversity, conservation biology, molecular evolution, population and quantitative genetics, genomics, animal behaviour, community and ecosystem ecology, and systematics, taught through lectures, hands-on labs, field trips in Ontario and internationally, and independent research projects. The program is relevant to students interested in sustainable development, climate change, invasive species, biodiversity preservation and emerging infectious disease. Enrolment in the Specialist is open: a student who has completed 4.0 credits may enrol, with no minimum grade required. It contributes to a four-year Honours Bachelor of Science degree.
