Overview

The Micro-certificate in Climate Action Planning (CAP) is a great opportunity to learn the foundations of planning for climate action. You will develop the skills needed for you as a professional to put into action at all government levels. Through various planning, coordinating and leading activities, this program will help you lay out collaborative strategies and solutions for navigating the challenges of climate change. This micro-credential is supported by a partnership between the School of Environmental Studies and the Division of Continuing Studies, resulting in expertly designed courses taught by leaders in their fields. Courses are current, comprehensive and designed for the needs of busy professionals looking for online learning.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This micro-certificate has no formal admission requirements; the program page states the three required courses, offered at third- and fourth-year undergraduate level, need no application and are open for independent registration. It is aimed at educators, business leaders, and community organizers working on climate action, but the page sets no prerequisite course, minimum grade, or English-language test score as a condition of entry. Participants may take any single course from the set or complete all three toward the full micro-certificate, and no interview, portfolio, or prior climate-related credential is required either way.

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, which opens for 2027-entry applications on 1 October 2026: most degree programmes see September 2027 entry close 31 January 2027, January 2027 entry close 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry close 31 March 2027, though Teacher Education post-degree programmes close 2 January 2027, Indigenous Education post-degree admits on an ongoing basis, and Engineering's Summer entry (high-school graduates only) closes 31 December 2026. International applicants use the same portal and face identical dates, since UVic publishes no separate international deadline. UVic treats these as fixed annual dates rather than rolling admission, though it warns any programme can close early without notice. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
