Overview
Applied Mathematics with Scientific Computing and Scientific Machine Learning at the University of Waterloo leads to a Bachelor of Mathematics, at the undergraduate level, offered as both a co-op and a regular program. Students apply to Mathematics and choose this major at the end of first year. The curriculum covers the mathematical and computational tools that underlie the application of machine learning to problems in science, medicine, and technology, teaching students to model and analyze complex systems using scientific computing and machine learning methods that incorporate the governing rules of physics, biology, and engineering. Coursework combines applied mathematics, numerical methods, and computer science, building toward the design and analysis of scientific machine learning models. Graduates are prepared for roles in scientific computing, data science, and computational research, as well as further graduate study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Ontario high school; applicants apply to Mathematics and choose this major at the end of first year.
