Overview
Medicinal Chemistry is an undergraduate program in the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Science focused on pharmaceutical design and the relationship between molecular structure and drug function. Students can focus on areas such as organic synthesis, computer modelling or biochemistry, and complete more than 20 hands-on lab courses along with a fourth-year independent research project. The program is offered on a co-op basis only, with students alternating study and work terms starting in second year. Graduates are prepared for drug-research-related roles in universities, pharmaceutical companies and government research laboratories. Ontario applicants are admitted with six Grade 12 U/M courses: English (minimum 70%), Advanced Functions (minimum 70%), Calculus and Vectors (minimum 70%), and two of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Mathematics of Data Management or Physics. Admission averages are set through individual selection, typically in the low 80s.
