The Master of Science in Chemistry at the University of Waterloo is a research-focused graduate program covering analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, materials, nanotechnology, organic, physical, polymer, quantum, and theoretical chemistry. Students choose between a thesis option, completing original research in a chosen area with roughly half their coursework drawn from the Chemistry department, or a research paper option that combines interdisciplinary coursework with one term of full-time laboratory research; the research paper route is open only to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. The degree is delivered on the Waterloo campus and is designed to be completed in 24 months of full-time study, with admission available in the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. Graduates work under the supervision of Chemistry faculty across the department's core research areas and gain training suited to further doctoral study or to research and technical careers in the chemical sciences, drawing on Waterloo's laboratory infrastructure and its research-intensive science faculty.
