PhD in Vision Science

This PhD program is offered through the School of Optometry & Vision Science at the University of Waterloo and trains students for research careers in vision science. Students conduct original research within one of three areas: Applied Studies, Fundamental Bioscience, or Societal Impact, working toward new knowledge in their chosen specialization. Admission is open to applicants holding a master's degree, or equivalent, that included a substantial research thesis in an area relevant to vision science. The program is full-time and delivered on-campus, with a nominal length of 48 months to completion. Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, research laboratories, specialized clinical practice within health care, or industry roles related to vision science. The program admits students in the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, with a dedicated English language proficiency requirement for applicants whose prior education was not in English.
