Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences (PhD)

The PhD in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences is offered by the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences in the Faculty of Science and is a research-intensive doctoral program focused on literature review, data analysis and academic writing skills for careers in academia or industry. It is the only program of its kind in Canada combining both atmospheric and oceanic sciences, covering meteorology, physical oceanography, climate science, atmospheric chemistry, sea ice and numerical modelling. Students have access to state-of-the-art computing, remote sensing and atmospheric chemistry laboratory equipment, and benefit from close ties with Environment and Climate Change Canada's numerical weather prediction centre in Dorval, near the Montreal campus. Graduates who do not continue in academia often find research positions at government laboratories such as Environment and Climate Change Canada. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, along with proof of English-language proficiency. The program admits students for the Fall term.
