Overview

The Master of Applied Science in Psychology (Developmental and Communication Science) at the University of Waterloo is offered by the School of Psychology for students who already have a strong background in developmental psychology or a related field and are not seeking further research training at the PhD level. The program provides intensive, applied research experience over one year of full-time study, with an option to complete a community practicum or a research lab internship. Graduates are prepared for careers such as early childhood education, teaching, speech-language pathology, social work, policy work, journalism, and marketing. Admission requires an Honours bachelor's degree in Psychology, or an approved equivalent field such as Linguistics or Computer Science, with a minimum overall standing of 80% over the last two years of study. Full-time study is delivered on campus. Applicants whose prior education was not conducted in English must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements. The program admits new students in the Fall term.

Applicants whose prior education was not conducted in English must meet English language proficiency requirements, with a minimum IELTS Academic score of 7.0 overall (minimum 6.5 in writing and speaking) or TOEFL iBT score of 4.5 overall on the 1-6 scale (minimum 5 in writing and speaking).
