Argumentation Studies, PhD

The PhD in Argumentation Studies at the University of Windsor builds on the university's informal logic movement within Philosophy, combining that tradition with perspectives and applications from Psychology, English (Rhetoric), Computer Science, Visual Arts, Law, Political Science, and Teaching and Learning. The program's coursework includes a Fall double course covering the history and traditions of argumentation theory, and a Winter double course examining contemporary, interdisciplinary approaches and applications, alongside an audited Winter course addressing current topics in the field. Students also complete a research-focused thesis project. The interdisciplinary training prepares graduates for a range of careers spanning human resources, conflict resolution, policy development, research and education, in addition to academic positions. It is offered as an interdisciplinary graduate program at the University of Windsor.
