Offered by Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, Canada, Practical Nursing Diploma is a diploma in Health Sciences programme. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 213 per credit for local students.
The practical nursing diploma focuses on delivering effective, empathetic front-line patient care. The program is built to provide the knowledge, skills, judgment and attitude needed to meet competencies set by British Columbia's College of Licensed Practical Nurses. Completion brings the competencies required to sit the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Selective admission, and the program runs at TRU's Williams Lake campus only. Requirements: Grade 12 or equivalent, or mature-student status; English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at a minimum of 65% (TRU accepts, in place of that mark, ESAL 0570 taken with ESAL 0580, or else ENGL 0600 or ENGL 0601); Foundations of Mathematics 11 at a minimum of 60% or equivalent; Anatomy and Physiology 12 at a minimum of 60% or equivalent; and Human Anatomy and Physiology for Practical Nurses at a minimum of 65%, or HLTH 1121 at a minimum of 65%, or equivalent. Graduates gain the competencies to sit the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam and are trained to the competencies set by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia. TRU lists the program as open to international applicants and publishes a separate English-test table for the Practical Nursing Diploma on its international English-requirements page, so international applicants should read that table rather than the general undergraduate one.
Application Details
Start Date:September (Fall) intake only, as listed on TRU's program page.
Application Deadline:No separate date is published for this program, so TRU's general undergraduate deadlines apply. Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents): 1 May for the September (Fall) intake. International applicants are given the same date for the September intake on TRU's separate international deadline page: 1 May. Applications for most programs open 1 October. A deadline falling on a weekend or statutory holiday moves to the next working day, and TRU keeps accepting applications after the date where space remains, though high-volume programs can close early. TRU's own program page additionally flags this as a Selective admission program, so meeting the general deadline does not secure a seat: qualified applicants are ranked and places are limited.
