Overview
This full-time, non-credit certificate trains students to decontaminate, sterilize, store, and distribute reusable medical equipment within a hospital's medical device reprocessing area. The 22-week program combines 140 hours of online theory instruction, 56 hours of in-person clinical skills practice in a classroom setting, and a 344-hour hands-on clinical practicum at Island Health hospital sites in Nanaimo and Victoria, with shifts scheduled flexibly between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and transportation for the practicum.
