Overview
India and South Asia Studies is built on a core in anthropology, supplemented by history and political science, and strong language skills. The programme focuses on India and also covers Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, including social, cultural, political and economic conditions and everyday life in the region.
Students learn Hindi, the most widely used language in South Asia, and no prior knowledge is required. Small classes combine lectures, discussions, practical exercises, study-group work and student presentations. Students spend one semester in India for intensive Hindi teaching and first-hand experience of a globalised India, which also prepares them for careers across the world.
