The diplomingeniør programme in mechanical engineering teaches students to develop and improve physical products, machines and technologies, from how loads and heat affect a design to the choice of materials and the needs of the user. The first four semesters cover mathematics, statics, strength of materials, materials, machine elements, thermodynamics, instrumentation and measurement technology.
Students work on concrete problems from the first semester, often with companies. The fifth semester is a practical placement in Denmark or abroad. In the last two semesters students choose electives in areas such as new materials, energy solutions, robotics, automation and artificial intelligence. Graduates can work as engineers directly or continue to a civilingeniør degree.
