This MSc in Quantum Computing covers how quantum mechanics is used to perform computation, leading to quantum algorithms that solve tasks intractable for classical computers, such as factoring integers, simulating quantum many-body systems, and running search algorithms. It also covers quantum communication and quantum encryption, whose security rests on the laws of quantum mechanics rather than on computational difficulty, giving it stronger guarantees than classical encryption. The programme is distinguished by its emphasis on the software side of quantum computing and on how theory and practice interact, combining theoretical, practical, and interdisciplinary elements drawn from physics, computer science, and mathematics. Students engage with building and implementing algorithms for quantum computers, protocols for quantum information, and techniques for error correction, gain hands-on programming experience on quantum computers, and work on real-world use cases alongside companies and research units already active in the field, with opportunities to collaborate with industry on the master's thesis. Taught in English, the degree sits within SDU's Centre for Quantum Mathematics, part of its Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science.
