Overview
The Certificat de capacité d'orthoptiste is a state-controlled diploma delivered by the medicine and medical techniques unit of Nantes Université. It is a selective course with 23 places in 2026, reached through Parcoursup. Holders may continue into master-grade programmes, since the licence grade (180 ECTS) allows graduates to enter master-level study. Orthoptists may work in self-employed practice or as salaried staff in public or private institutions, either autonomously or alongside ophthalmologists. Their scope is set by a decree listing permitted professional acts. Demand across the sector is strong, with more job offers than candidates.
