Overview
Oniris VetAgroBio is a French national higher-education institution in Nantes, set up in 1979 and focused on animal health, food and bioproduction.
It trains veterinary doctors, food and bioproduction engineers over three years, and BTSA BioQuALIM technicians for the food industry, and also offers Masters and doctoral training. Engineering students can enter directly after the baccalauréat through the Cycle Préparatoire Intégré, a five-year route, or later through competitive exams after preparatory classes, a BTS or BTSA, a BUT or a Licence, or by apprenticeship.
The veterinary and engineering courses lead to separate national diplomas. Research is organised in 18 units and 11 platforms around health and food, covering farm animal and public health, food safety and quality, food processes and sustainability, and biomedical research, with co-accreditation to award the doctorate in three doctoral schools.
The school runs a university veterinary hospital open around the clock for pets, exotic animals and horses, and has two campuses in Nantes, at La Chantrerie and La Géraudière.
Every student must complete a period abroad, from four weeks to six months, supported by Erasmus+, partnerships in Brazil and Argentina, and double degrees with Brazilian universities.
