Overview

German and Comparative Literature is a bi-national Master of Arts run with the University of St Andrews. Students study at Bonn and at the Scottish partner, covering both German studies and the comparative study of literature and culture. The emphasis is literature as it connects nations, cultures and media, which goes beyond the analysis of single national literatures. Time in two academic cultures adds practical experience to theory. Graduates receive a German-Scottish double degree, Master of Arts and Master of Letters. Admission is restricted by a local numerus clausus with a special selection. The Bonn degree is a Master of Arts studied on campus over 4 semesters. Courses are held in German, English, and new students begin in the winter semester. Admission details and the examination regulations are listed in the key facts of the programme page.
