Paleontology is a research-oriented programme with an established reputation in Germany and abroad. It spans invertebrate and vertebrate paleontology, micropaleontology and paleobotany, and is integrated into the research agenda on the history of the Earth and of life. Students work alongside researchers in areas such as evolution, biodiversity, biogeography, geochemistry and climate archives.
A small group of compulsory modules brings students together for shared discussion and exchange. Students also learn the working methods of several geoscience specialisms, which prepares them for interdisciplinary projects. The degree is taught in German and English. Graduates pursue careers in applied and industrial paleontology, environmental protection, geological services, raw materials, museums and academic research.
