Reflecting its place between nature and society, this master's course in geography deals with how space is organised and how it changes. It aims to help students devise strategies for ecological and societal challenges, whether local or worldwide.
A distinctive feature at Bonn is that choosing a speciality is optional. Learners can therefore build a very narrow programme or a broad one, depending on interests and what is offered. Those wanting a focus select among four areas: development and globalisation, governance and space, shifting environmental systems, and water under global change. The course has no minor subjects, though classes from other fields can be added for extra credit.
The Master of Science lasts four semesters and is taught in German and English. It starts in the winter semester. A local numerus clausus with a special selection procedure restricts the number of places.
