Cognitive Science is an English-taught Master of Science at Ruhr-Universität Bochum that is strongly research-oriented and interdisciplinary. It joins philosophy, psychology, neuroinformatics and empirical neuroscience.
The questions include the basic mechanisms of learning, forgetting and remembering, the role of emotions, the neural processes behind object recognition, what it means to have concepts and be rational and how cognitive abilities evolved in humans and animals. Students deal with formal modelling and philosophical theories.
Applicants need good English, a very good Bachelor degree in a fitting subject and a high willingness to study. Admission is restricted (NC), and study takes four semesters from the winter semester. Graduates often become doctoral students or researchers.
Further details on enrolment are available separately for German and international applicants, and the semester contribution is explained on a dedicated university page. Students can turn to the study advisory service of the department with questions about content and admission.
