Materials Science and Simulation is an English-taught Master of Science at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. It combines simulation methods that bridge scales with modern experimental analysis and encourages project-based teamwork in an interdisciplinary setting.
Topics include multiscale modelling of materials, physical and mechanical properties, relationships between microstructure and properties, numerical modelling, processing and characterisation, light elements in metallic alloys and materials for aerospace. Students work with quantum mechanics, thermodynamics and programming basics.
Applicants should have a basic grasp of material behaviour and its numerical modelling and a foundation in materials science or solid-state physics. The programme takes four semesters from the winter semester, and a stay abroad is optional.
Further details on enrolment are available separately for German and international applicants, and the semester contribution is explained on a dedicated university page. Students can turn to the study advisory service of the department with questions about content and admission.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Open admission (zulassungsfrei); application via the faculty. Basic understanding of material behaviour and its numerical modelling; solid foundations in materials science or solid-state physics. Language of instruction: English.
