The Further Education & Skills CertEd is a two-year, full-time course at TGI University Centre, delivered in partnership with Portsmouth University. It prepares students to teach in further education and skills settings, where learners are mostly aged 16 and above, and the next intake begins on 14 September 2026. The level is listed as Level 5 or 6.
On successful completion students are awarded QTLS, a nationally recognised teaching qualification for the sector. The details of the course content are published on the Portsmouth University website. Students should expect a teaching placement away from the island of about two weeks.
Applicants are expected to hold a Level 3 qualification and, for vocational teaching, several years of professional experience in their subject. GCSE English and Mathematics at grade 4 or above, or an equivalent, are also required. Graduates can go on to teach in further education colleges or with private training providers.
