Overview
The Guernsey Institute (TGI) is the island's public provider of further, higher and professional education, run under the States of Guernsey Committee for Education, Sport & Culture.
It was created in 2019 by merging the College of Further Education, the Institute of Health and Social Care Studies and the GTA University Centre, and it now organises its teaching into four branches: TGI College, TGI Apprenticeships, TGI Business School and TGI University Centre. The University Centre is the degree-level arm.
Working with UK universities, chiefly Middlesex University, it delivers a three-year full-time BSc in Adult Nursing approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, a two-year Nursing Associate foundation degree, postgraduate certificates, diplomas and master's degrees in leadership, education and clinical practice, and a postgraduate teaching certificate for new teachers. Further teaching qualifications are offered with the University of Portsmouth, and the Business School works with Leeds Beckett University on an MSc in Corporate Governance.
Degrees are awarded by the partner universities rather than by the Institute itself, and the University Centre is a member of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
Teaching takes place on island campuses, with the University Centre based at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, and a purpose-built Post-16 Campus at Les Ozouets in St Peter Port is planned to bring the branches together.
