MA/MS in Íslenskar bókmenntir

Icelandic Literature is a 120-unit master's programme in the School of Humanities at the University of Iceland. It aims to give students scientific training and to prepare them for further study and varied work, such as upper-secondary teaching, scholarly work and doctoral study. The study plan runs over two years. Autumn courses include gods, men and monsters in Old Norse sources, a workshop in cultural journalism, literature and magic, Romanticism and emotion in the nineteenth century, and editing and academic writing. Spring courses include tales of places, Egils saga Skallagrímssonar, stylistics, Icelandic in the school system, modernism in literature, and rímur and medieval romance. The page notes that some graduates of the School of Humanities go on to work in the media, publishing and public cultural institutions.
