This programme leads to a professional bachelor's degree in nursing together with the qualification of general care nurse. It is run by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care at Daugavpils University and is studied full time over four years.
The study modules begin with the scientific foundations of the profession, including human anatomy, human physiology, pathological physiology, biophysics and biochemistry, and then move towards clinical nursing practice. Students follow a fixed curriculum, and course descriptions for each subject are published on the university website, so prospective applicants can review the content of every course before applying.
Entry is competitive and depends on results from the centralised secondary-school examinations. Applicants gain additional points for strong biology results, which reflects the natural-science emphasis of the course.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants are ranked on centralised examination results in Latvian, the first foreign language and mathematics, using the average of all these results. Extra points are awarded for a centralised examination in biology, for the certificate grade or credit in biology and natural sciences, and for holders of the Daugavpils University Science School certificate.
