Overview
The University of Latvia is a public university based in Riga, with its Academic Centre in the capital and regional branches elsewhere in the country.
Teaching is organised in six faculties and a business school: Economics and Social Sciences, Exact Sciences and Technology, Humanities, Education Sciences and Psychology, Law, and Medicine and Life Sciences, alongside the LU FinTech Business School. Study is arranged in stages.
Short-cycle programmes, which sit at college level, include programming and computer network administration, preschool teaching, sports coaching, accounting and finance, and occupational safety. Bachelor's and Master's programmes are run by the faculties and the FinTech school.
The doctoral level offers 13 programmes, supported by a Doctoral School that provides training in transferable research skills.
Medical graduates can continue into residency programmes, which have separate budget-funded and fee-paying places and are accredited until the end of 2028. The catalogue lists more than 100 study programmes in total, and the university publishes study booklets for the main campus and for its regional branches.
Prospective students can explore the offer at the Universs@LU study festival, hosted in the Science House of the Academic Centre in Riga; the 2026 edition took place on 19-21 February.
