Overview
Riga Stradiņš University is a public university in Riga whose teaching centres on health, the social sciences and related professions, under the banner of science for a healthy society.
It grew out of a medical institute and later took in a sports education academy, which now operates as the RSU Sport Academy. Undergraduate study spans short-cycle programmes in areas such as physician assistance, therapeutic massage, dental hygiene and sports coaching, bachelor's degrees in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, public health, psychology, social work, law, journalism and international business, and long second-cycle degrees in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
Most programmes run full-time, and several also offer a part-time route. Nursing and sports coaching are also taught at the Kurzeme study centre.
Master's programmes mostly last two years and range from biomedicine, biostatistics and clinical pharmacy to health psychology, digital transformation in healthcare, economic security and international relations.
Medicine, dentistry, health management and several master's programmes, including Russian and Eurasian studies and social work with children and youth, are listed as English-language options. Doctoral study is full-time and offered in two programmes, social sciences and healthcare, to more than 250 doctoral students.
A Doctoral School supports them, and a limited number of budget-funded places are allocated in each programme.
