Overview
This joint programme between two Riga universities covers the full industrial process behind manufacturing medicines, developed with pharmaceutical companies and professional associations. The first year covers the development and manufacturing technology of dosage forms, the properties and production methods of key groups of active substances, the principles of large-scale synthesis and production facility requirements, and the fundamentals of quality control, registration documentation and pharmaceutical marketing, alongside the role of clinical trials in drug development.
The second year includes a six-month placement in pharmaceutical manufacturing, during which students prepare and defend a research thesis and sit a state examination. Graduates gain an integrated view of every discipline involved in pharmaceutical production, preparing them for roles in dosage-form development laboratories and drug registration departments within manufacturing companies, and the degree provides a route into doctoral study in pharmacy or related fields.
