Automotive Transport (Automobile Mechanic) is a secondary vocational education programme at Riga Technical College (Rīgas Tehniskā koledža). It is taught in Latvian at Lēdmanes iela 3 in Riga, lasts four years in the day department on campus, and leads to the qualification of automobile mechanic.
Automobile mechanics work in vehicle maintenance and repair companies, diagnostic centres and technical inspection points. They service cars, diagnose their condition and repair faults by replacing assemblies and parts, dismantling and fitting components and doing fitter's work. Training includes using workshop machines and test equipment such as a lift, wheel balancing equipment, an exhaust analyser and a brake stand, following workshop safety rules and using manufacturers' technical literature.
The programme admits students who have completed basic education (nine grades). Graduates can continue their studies at Riga Technical College (RTK), Riga Technical University (RTU) or the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU).
