PhD in Valodu un literatūras studijas

Delivered by Riga Technical University's Liepāja Academy together with Daugavpils University and Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, this three-year joint doctorate leads to a Ph.D. in the humanities and arts, taught in Latvian or English, and offers a choice of three subprogrammes: linguistics, literature and culture studies, or translation studies. Each track prepares researchers with strong potential to produce original, current research that generates new knowledge and applies an interdisciplinary approach to major problems within the chosen field. Coursework covers current theoretical and methodological issues in linguistics, literary science and translation studies within an interdisciplinary frame, while candidates receive qualified supervision intended to build a sustainable academic research tradition around them. Candidates present findings at international conferences and publish in scholarly journals, and the programme places particular emphasis on preparing candidates for both academic careers and cooperation with future employers, supported by mobility and exchange opportunities in Latvia and abroad.
