This master's programme in Dentistry prepares students with the theoretical and practical grounding to begin practising general dentistry independently. Teaching spans biomedical subjects shared with medicine, running from cell biology and biochemistry through to human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathology, microbiology and epidemiology, alongside psychology, ethics and the management of a practice. Knowledge of oral and dental biology then covers the structure and function of dental tissue along with the neighbouring structures of the neck and head. Preparatory training in phantom laboratories and clinics builds clinical and manual skills, and clinical training involves treating patients under supervision, with field placements in the seventh and tenth semesters. The programme leads to a dentist degree and forms the basis for further specialist or doctoral study.
