The master's programme offers academic education in Romance languages, with specialised courses available in French, Spanish or Italian, covering translation, international relations, language teaching, and linguistic and cultural studies. Students specialise in one Romance language or combine two, such as French and Spanish, within a multilingual, multidisciplinary approach that covers communication models and strategies, the interaction between cultures and languages, and how literature and art vary in their regional specificity and diversity. Teaching draws on visiting professors from Italian, Spanish and French universities, and students have exchange opportunities at universities in France, Belgium, Canada, Italy and Spain. English- and Latvian-language specialists are also involved in teaching translation and cultural studies, building the skills needed to carry out research spanning applied and general linguistics, along with literature, cultural studies and translation.
