Doctoral Programme in Law is a doctorate in Law programme offered by Université du Luxembourg in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. The programme is delivered on campus. Tuition for international students is EUR 400 per semester (EUR 400 per semester for local students).
The Doctoral School of Law runs a single doctoral programme covering the full range of legal research carried out in the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance. Candidates usually spend three to four years preparing a thesis and work in English, French or German, reflecting the multilingual and comparative character of law in Luxembourg. Entry is through one of two routes: applying for a funded doctoral position advertised by the university, or persuading a professor whose research matches the proposed topic to act as supervisor, which does not come with a salary. External funding, notably from the national research fund's individual doctoral grants, is suggested as an alternative. As in the other doctoral schools, candidates are followed by a thesis supervision committee and complete a training portfolio of credit-bearing activities alongside their research. Applications are accepted throughout the year rather than in a fixed window.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Master's degree or equivalent as defined in the University law (art. 32, 3) and the Study Regulations; non-European Master's degrees must be equivalent to level 7 under Luxembourg recognition law. Candidates either answer a doctoral job offer on the University Job Portal or find a professor willing to supervise (in which case no financing is provided); FNR AFR-PhD funding is a further route. CEFR B2 in the thesis language.
