Master in Border Studies is a master's degree in European Studies programme taught at Université du Luxembourg in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered on campus. It carries 120.0 credits (ECTS). Tuition for international students is EUR 400 per semester (EUR 400 per semester for local students).
This trinational, multilingual Master examines borders and cross-border regions from spatial, cultural and linguistic perspectives. It is delivered jointly by the University of Luxembourg, Université de Lorraine, Saarland University and RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau, and graduates receive a joint diploma from all four. Teaching is in German, French and English, and classes move between partner campuses each semester. The first semester introduces core concepts and research methods; in the second, students choose either a spatial track rooted in geography and planning or a track in cultural studies, literature, linguistics and intercultural communication. The third semester takes place at the German partners and includes a week-long excursion and an optional case study on cross-border cooperation, while the fourth is devoted to the thesis, framed by workshops. A professional placement on a border-related topic is compulsory. Support from the Franco-German University is available for periods abroad. Graduates work in cross-border administration, cultural institutions, media relations or regional marketing, or continue to doctoral research.
