Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Pre-Primary Education)

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education with a Pre-Primary Education specialization at the University of Macau prepares graduates for teaching young children. Its stated outcomes include acting according to the ethics of the profession, knowing strategies for teaching, learning and behaviour management, making productive use of assessment, and applying knowledge of child development to support social and emotional learning and students with special needs. The study plan for intakes from 2015/2016 requires 24 credits for graduation and takes one year. Compulsory courses make up 18 credits and begin with an introduction to education; students then choose 6 credits from required electives such as educational administration. Teachers already in post have their teaching practice judged on their present performance in their own kindergartens. Instruction is in Chinese supplemented with English.
