PGCert in Secondary Education

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary Education specialization) at the University of Macau is a one-year programme for people preparing to teach in secondary schools. The intended outcomes include demonstrating educators' ethical commitments, acquiring knowledge of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies, using assessment accurately, building the pedagogical-content knowledge needed for effective instruction, and identifying pupils' progress and emerging needs, including support for students with special needs. The study plan requires 24 credits: 18 credits of compulsory courses, beginning with Introduction to Education, and 6 credits chosen from required electives such as Educational Administration. For in-service teachers, the teaching practice component is judged from their present classroom work in secondary schools. The language of instruction is Chinese supplemented with English. Applicants need a bachelor's degree or an equivalent background recognized by the University, and may be asked for other knowledge or professional experience.
