MPhil

MPhil is a research degree at the University of Mauritius, taken by full-time candidates over a minimum of two years and a maximum of three, or over three to four years part-time. Applicants join by submitting a research proposal and are expected to talk to academic staff in their chosen area before finalising it. The same applicant guidance for the 2026/2027 academic year covers the MPhil/PhD and PhD routes, and an MPhil registration can be upgraded to a PhD on request. Research themes and the interests of staff across the faculties, the centre and the affiliated institution are published by the university to help applicants choose a topic. Admission requires a degree in a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification, at Second Class Honours level or above. Fees are set per year, and a separate thesis fee falls due when the thesis is submitted in the final year.
