Overview
Universite des Mascareignes (UdM) is a public university in Mauritius, established in 2012 under the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research.
It is the country's youngest public university and operates across campuses at Roches Brunes in Rose Hill, at Beau Plan in Pamplemousses, and at Bel-Air. UdM organises its teaching into three faculties: Business and Management, Information and Communication Technology, and Sustainable Development and Engineering, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, with research-level study available through a dedicated Doctoral School.
A defining feature of UdM is its long-running partnership with the Universite de Limoges in France, signed in 2013, under which many UdM qualifications are awarded jointly as dual degrees and Limoges staff contribute to teaching, particularly at master's level. Top-performing engineering students can also be selected for further study at Limoges' ENSIL-ENSCI school, supported by a joint scholarship from the French Embassy and UdM covering French registration fees and a monthly allowance.
International students make up more than 17 percent of UdM's enrolment, the highest share among Mauritius's public universities, with sizeable groups from Madagascar and other African countries.
The university also runs the Sustainability and Climate Change Programme, a research initiative on decarbonisation and climate resilience in Mauritius and the wider Indian Ocean region, alongside several Erasmus+ funded international mobility and governance projects.
