This postgraduate programme at the University of Technology, Mauritius prepares engineers and related graduates for careers in renewable energy. It responds to the country's aim of raising the renewable share of its energy supply while phasing out coal by 2030, and to the growing need for people with green-economy skills.
The taught modules cover renewable energy technologies, photovoltaics and photovoltaic system design, wind energy, energy efficiency management, life cycle engineering, the economics and policy of renewables, sustainability principles and engineering research methods. The course closes with a dissertation. Its content was shaped with input from energy-sector organisations in Mauritius and abroad.
Graduates can move into system design, installation, operation and maintenance, energy auditing, standards and policy work, project management, consultancy, training or research, or set up their own ventures. Study is part-time over two years.
