Overview
This course provides tools and knowledge for putting creative ideas on paper in fictional or non-fictional form, with particular attention to two short genres, the personal essay and the short story. It combines hands-on creative writing workshops with in-class discussion of short stories and essays, alongside academic literature covering aspects of craft such as style, argumentation, pace and texture, narration, point of view, setting, character, and how pieces begin and end. Those leading the classes are academic experts in creative writing and literature who also write short stories and essays themselves.
