MA/MS in Arts and Culture

This master investigates the function of the arts in society, asking what forms such as painting, film, music and theatre contribute to cultures and why humans across history have engaged in them. It combines in-depth disciplinary knowledge with professional and social engagement and critical and creative thinking, through six tracks spanning the fine arts, architecture, music, theatre and film, with particular focus on cultural heritage, cultural entrepreneurship and policy-making. The tracks are Art History with a Curatorial Studies specialisation, Arts in Society, Film and Contemporary Audiovisual Media, History of Architecture and Urbanism, a Dutch-language landscape history track, and Popular Music and Sonic Cultures.
