The one-year master's degree, organised by the Van Vollenhoven Institute, whose focus is law, governance and society, in collaboration with several other faculties and institutes, including Criminology, Governance and Global Affairs, Humanities, plus the Erasmus University Rotterdam-based International Institute of Social Studies, takes a broad interdisciplinary approach to teaching students about lawmaking, law implementation and dispute resolution, and how these connect to social justice and uphold the rule of law. It looks at how legal rules and institutions, in various forms, influence society, and in turn how society shapes what law becomes and how it operates, building a deep understanding of the relationship between law and society along with the tools needed to critically assess developments in today's legal, socio-political and economic landscape.
