Overview
Mandatory coursework fills the first two years, building foundational knowledge in ecology, evolution, biodiversity, cell biology and genetics, alongside basic chemistry, ethics, scientific method and statistics, with laboratory exercises and field excursions included in several courses. The final year is made up of elective courses, allowing students to specialise in areas such as aquatic microbiology, bioinformatics, advanced ecology, marine mammals, molecular cell biology or methods used in marine research. Options also include a bachelor's thesis, a 15-week placement in Norway or abroad, or part of a semester studying overseas. Completion qualifies graduates to apply for further master's study in bioscience. Instruction is in English and requires physical attendance.
