Cert in Arctic and Nordic Studies

The one-year programme runs across two semesters: the autumn semester covers how the Barents region and Svalbard developed historically, the political systems of the Nordic states, and the Arctic policies of regional and non-regional states such as the United States and China. The spring semester turns to social organisation and culture in the Arctic and Nordic regions, with particular attention to indigenous peoples, how they live and the difficulties they encounter, alongside questions of resource development, justice and sustainability amid environmental change. It can be taken as a stand-alone programme or as elective courses within other bachelor's degrees, and is offered in English, mainly online with some courses available on campus.
