The flexible practical-pedagogical programme (FPPU) for general subjects at NTNU is a part-time, cohort-based course that runs over two years. It combines pedagogy, subject didactics and practice in school, and students can complete the practice period close to home. The course is for people who have a university or college degree, preferably a master, but lack the practical-pedagogical training needed to become a permanent teacher.
The award is a practical-pedagogical certificate in general subjects, qualifying graduates to teach in upper secondary school and in grades 5 to 10. Graduates can also work in adult education or cultural schools, depending on their teaching subjects, and in communication or curriculum work outside schools.
