Overview

Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering make up the two specialisations within this master's programme, giving graduates a grounding for tackling engineering problems within sizeable projects. Central topics include construction in steel, timber, concrete and ultra-high-performance concrete, life-cycle analysis, fatigue, geotechnics and foundations, the finite element method, and risk and quality management, alongside courses in urban planning, road construction, and water and wastewater treatment. Teaching reflects the range of professions graduates can enter, from construction companies and offshore equipment manufacturing to project management and public administration, and addresses the environmental consequences of choices in structural systems and materials, together with how such systems are managed, operated and maintained over their lifecycle.
